Concept and development[ edit ] Seven of Nine was created with characters such as Spock in mind. Following the third season of Star Trek: Voyager , the production team decided that the main cast character of Kes was to be dropped from the show. It was decided that Captain Kathryn Janeway needed a contrasting character, and so Seven of Nine was developed to provide this new angle. In addition, it had been a previous Star Trek staple to have a character that could provide a third-person view on the human condition. Prior examples had been Spock in Star Trek: To prepare her, the producers gave her a copy of Star Trek: First Contact and the Star Trek Encyclopedia the day before she was due to test for the part.
A Fire of Devotion Part 1 of 4: Louder Than Sirens: Chapters Seven & Eight
Potentially not good for growth mindset. Last week I challenged a bad study about innate ability, and in the process I accidentally made a few people feel depressed and worthless. If I had read this post back in those days, before I had signed up for my class— well, I suppose I never would have signed up.
Sep 06, · Who’s to say she didn’t drop the bombshell (that Chakotay and Seven get married) knowing that they would each react exactly the way they did: Janeway, when told Seven dies in the arms of her husband, doesn’t repeat “Seven” or “dies” but the word “husband” with a look of consternation.
Part II Seven of Nine is separated from the collective when Chakotay uses a temporary neural link to sabotage the console she is using, permanently destroying her neural link. Later, in The Gift [Seven] is not used to being an individual and she repeatedly demands that she be returned to the Collective. Janeway refuses, and asks her to help with removing the Borg technology in Voyager’s systems. Seven threatens to kill Janeway when the Captain enters her cell in the brig intentionally unarmed.
Seven even physically strikes her out of anger. Why didn’t Seven assimilate Janeway using nanoprobes when she was within striking distance? She had her tubules and her nanoprobes at that point and is shown using them for the rest of the series. A couple of years after the above in the episode Inside Man ; Ferangi hijack a hologram of Reginald Barclay in an attempt to send Seven’s dead body through a geodesic fold so that they could harvest and sell her borg nanoprobes.
Star Trek is THE franchise. There may be more episodes of Doctor Who. There may be more action figures from Star Wars.
You’d better say ‘I do’ before poor Seven has a heart attack,” Chakotay said insistently. Kathryn shook herself from her happy place and managed to look up past Seven’s breasts to see that the woman did look awfully nervous and frightened.
Since I know these topics upset some people, be forewarned. I want to thank Kathleen Dailey and L. Cisneros for discussions about Janeway which informed much of this essay. It was anonymous, as most such letters are — signed only by the screen name of the writer — though clearly she thought she knew all about me, based on a handful of columns I’d written for Now Voyager and for Mania. At least, she knew I was married, had children, and had been a member of JetC.
The part which bugged me was this: You print articles rationalizing how Janeway and Chakotay should be together, but you won’t even look at a relationship between two women [i. Janeway and Seven of Nine]. I think you are threatened by how much intimacy these characters have developed. Maybe you should think about why.

She was assigned by the Collective to work with the Voyager crew, as Chakotay took Janeway’s place while Janeway was injured. She wanted the crew to go to another cube. However, Chakotay would not allow it. Janeway was finally recovered and went back to command.
Captain Kathryn Janeway nodded to Chakotay on the bridge, not knowing how he always managed to report to duty before her. She was even five minutes early this morning thanks to Seven.
I dig the heck out of it; the off-beat tone is unlike any episode since. It also serves as a thematic touchstone for the season regarding the human mind and its challenges in the 23rd century. The Enterprise Incident – Fun thriller involving the Romulans, and one of three episodes where each of the trio falls in love with an alien leader and is tempted to stay. The cloaking device strikes a different chord this time, implying there is more to the universe than meets the eye, as we’ll continue to see.
The Paradise Syndrome – The last episode shot outdoors, and it’s gorgeous. It feels more like a movie than a TV episode. TNG later remade this episode, and it’s easy to see why–the concept is a cool one. The children could be today’s online neo-Nazi trolls, hacking into machinery and people to create chaos. The Gorgon also calls to mind a William Blake painting, which puts the alien planet sets in a whole new light.
I was aware that they did not get along to a certain extent but to hear that the animosity came largely from the actor who I thought was wise and mature is disappointing. It puts a dampener on the experience of watching this show that is meant to be about tolerance and compassion. It is unfortunate that petty, real world conflicts could seep in and muddy that experience. I am sure Mulgrew thinks it was Ryan who was antagonizing.
Kate mulgrew as Janeway “There are three things to remember about being a starship captain: keep your shirt tucked in, go down with the ship, and never abandon a member of your cr.
Voyager Kathryn is finally ready to tell their story. The task is difficult as it stirs happy and painful memories, but most of all it shows that, once again, love is worth it all. Voyager and the characters belong to Paramount. I am just borrowing them for fun. I have friends and betas of diverse ages, countries, and backgrounds. Apr 19, The feeling I get through the series is that, for Janeway, the feelings may be there, but she doesn’t think she can let herself have them AND be an efficient captain. Whether that’s true or not from our perspective is irrelevant, Janeway seems to think this and continues to rebuff Chakotay. I don’t think it’s that unbelievable that he might give up trying after seven years. But ending up with Seven? Yeah, that was a bit Although, a pet theory I enjoy entertaining is that Admiral Janeway, who has obviously changed enough to think it’s perfectly alright to try and go back to alter history, could also have changed enough that she may also see going back as an opportunity to rectify the fact that she pushed Chakotay away.
After all, she knows herself, and she knows Seven.
Seven was a civilian, free to date whomever she pleased, and Chakotay, like all the other bachelors aboard Voyager, was fair game. Even to notice Seven’s absurd antics was beneath the captain’s dignity.
If you love all things Star Trek, and cannot get enough of it, then this blog is for you. Overview — Captain Janeway and Tuvok leave on an exchange assignment with a race known as the Kadi, a race that does not value over-stimulation of the senses. Nelix is assigned to host the Kadi ambassador who is responsible to evaluate the Voyager crew. During this exchange, the Doctor takes it upon himself to educate Seven of Nine in the art of romance.
The Doctor ends up making a bet with Tom Paris as to her capability to be successful at dating. As he tutors her on the aspects of going on a date, the Doctor comes to realize that he himself is developing feelings for his pupil. Amidst this, the Kadi ambassador turns out to be more than Nelix seems to be prepared for. We see the awkwardness of the inexperienced individual result in hilarity. There is a typical bet that damages the relationship between the two, and an eventual resolution.
While this episode does seem to hit the standard notes, it does so in a successful manner. The pacing is a bit rushed at times, and the story is mostly predictable, but it is a delight to watch. Chapman is not too over the top, but still funny. There is some great banter and humor. He plays the part with flare and passion.
Why did Chakotay Choose to be with seven instead of janeway?
Jul 13, Yeah I think Chakotay and Janeway should have ended up together too. They kind of did, in the episode where they were stranded on the planet and Chakotay built her a bath
Jul 26, · One notable exception to that was the romantic relationship between Chakotay and Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan). However, Beltran says that even with that subplot, the introduction of Seven of Nine — and the departure of executive producer Jeri Taylor — actually hurt his character in the long run.
Edit Stardates were used in certain cultures as far back as the s , when the United Earth government still worked with Gregorian calendar dates. In , Degra , a Xindi-Primate , sent a coded message to Enterprise NX containing a stardate for when Enterprise should rendezvous with Degra’s ship. T’Pol knew that it was three days in the future, indicating that Vulcans also had an understanding of stardates at that time.
By , Starfleet officers were expected to open their log entries with a stardate. Star Trek Beyond By , the digits to the left of the decimal separator stood for the Gregorian calendar year. Star Trek This format was used in the alternate reality at least through Star Trek Beyond By in the prime reality , a more complex relationship had been established between stardates and the Gregorian calendar.
Star Trek Nemesis The Jellyfish , however, reported its manufacturing date as simply “stardate “. Star Trek Stardates did not replace clock time or everyday units for expressing larger timespans, such as days, weeks, months, years, centuries, or millennia, and tend not to apply retroactively instead of Gregorian or Julian calendars either.
Seven of Nine
Not really, amazingly enough. Let me know if I should keep giving Voyager a go or stick to original fic. You can reach me at sberry e-scribblers. Chapter One Kathryn Janeway was not a happy camper. She was frustrated, confused, and had no idea how she was going to fix any of it.
Seven and Chakotay’s first kiss. Seven of Nine is the love interest of The Doctor and later Chakotay from Star Trek: Voyager.. Her Story. She was first seen arriving on the starship Voyager as Kathryn Janeway forged an alliance with the Borg.
Portrayed by Jeri Ryan , she is a former Borg drone who joins the crew of the Federation starship Voyager. The character Seven of Nine arrived just as the character Kes was leaving, and was intended to introduce a foil to Captain Kathryn Janeway in a similar manner as Spock in Star Trek: Seven of Nine was played by Jeri Ryan for four Voyager seasons.
The character was a part of the last four seasons which concluded in with its seventh season, and Seven was featured in many episodes despite coming later to the series. Seven was introduced in the second part of the episode ” Scorpion “, the first episode of the fourth season. The character continued to appear throughout the series until the final episode, ” Endgame “. Stories related to her relationships with Captain Janeway and The Doctor appeared throughout the series. Several episodes such as ” The Raven ” explored her background and younger life as Annika Hansen before she was assimilated by the Borg.
